School assignment, 5. semester(3rd. year)
Institut for Design
Aarhus School of Architecture
The theme of the semester was "fatness" and the target group; "tweens"(8-12 years old).
My group was working with the private home as our context, and I chose to work with the prevention of obesity.
My chair was based on an undergoing study of learningstyles, to create a chair which was target at the group of children who is kinesthetic - meaning children who learns best while moving.
The chair would be delivered at home, and is for the tween to sample. The flexible bows can be placed on the seating module in various combinations, so the tween will make his or her "own" chair. The bows varies in color and thickness, and can thereby also be customized through choise of colour.
With the chair, is a laerning package, which contains numbers and letters, that can be placed on the bows. The tween can then sit in the chair, and use the letters and numbers as a learning tool - he or her can for example spell a name while moving the hands from one letter to another.
As an extra moving-challenge, the seating module is round in the bottom so the tween has to try and keep the balance while using the chair - doing that, the kinestethic child would automaticly learn better.
